What if a team that don't have a captain, just two assistans captions. If a team won the Prince of Wales Trophy, Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, Stanley cup who accepts the award, do they just pick one of the two guys, do they need to have a captian for that game, do they both go up? Fill me in please. What if a team that don't have a captain, just two alternate captions (assistans) who accepts the cup?
The alternate captain with the most seniority will accept the puck first.
The last team to win a cup without a captain was the 1972 Bruins (and the 1970 Bruins). John Bucyk accepted the Cup for those teams.
In 2001, Joe Sakic touched the Cup first (as informally required) but Ray Bourque was the first to hoist it.
Last year, the Ducks petitioned the league to allow Scott to give the Cup to Rob directly without going through the seniority hierachy.
Note: There is no NHL rule that states that teams need a captain. There is an NHL rule that states that for teams who have no captain, the team must designate 2-3 non-goaltenders to act as a liaison between the officials and coaches.

It's supposed to be time in the league, but most teams just want to make sure the veterans get it first. People were so upset in Tampa that Brad Richards had to wait so long to get to touch it that something appeared in the paper the next day..........but hey, that's how it goes.

The advantage of being a scout..............your name goes on the cup before the players :)

The Red Wings received permission from the league in both 1998 and 2002 to have Konstantinov participate in on-ice activities. What if a team that don't have a captain, just two alternate captions (assistans) who accepts the cup?
ain't no team don't got no captain.
There is no rule as to who gets to hoist the cup first, the Captain gets it first, if there are 2 captains or only alternates then it is decided by the team ahead of time. Then there is no rule for who gets it next its up to the captain to decide. Yzerman gave it to Vladdy Constinov who was in a wheelchair one year. Its who ever the captain decides is who gets it next.
Yeah, but does that seniority by time in the league, or by time on that particular team? Dont the players have any sort of say in it? I really dont care, but now I am just kind of curious
The two girls get the cup.
I'll fill you in alright. It would probably be the one with seniority.
Dozer- READ the question. Some teams have more than one captain. Buffalo's captains last year were Drury and Briere......alternating. Drury is older but Briere was in the league longer........maybe both..........no, probably whomever was wearing the ';C'; for the winner.
LMAO, Jenni, you make me laugh. =)
You can start a season without a Captain, but i'm sure you have to have one eventually.
Devils went this season without a Captain for the first 6 weeks, than named Langenbrunner Captain when he came back.
